Even though Fall Flavours has been extended to a 5 week-long festival, and has new events and celebrity chefs added to the schedule, organizers say Islanders should make their plans for the festival soon. The culinary festival celebrating PEI’s food begins Friday night with Le Festin acadien avec homard.
“Some events are already sold out, and others are very limited. If you plan to attend Fall Flavours, we encourage people to buy tickets soon to avoid being disappointed,” says Food Island Partnership Chair, Bertha Campbell. “Another great reason to get your tickets now, Early Bird savings of 10% are in effect if you buy before September 1st.”
Celebrity Chef Danny Smiles hosts the Festival’s opening event, Le festin, on Friday. This Acadian traditional feast is known not only for its variety of classic Acadian dishes, but for its roof-raising Acadian tunes and step dancing, plus local entertainers that add a whole new flavour to the evening. A parade of outstanding Signature Events follows, including Toe Taps and Taters, where Chef Lynn Crawford prepares and presents PEI potatoes inside an actual potato warehouse, and Oysters on the Pier in Northport, where PEI’s own Chef Michael Smith hosts the shucking, music and multiple food stations showcasing the best of Canada’s Oyster Coast. In all, the festival presents fifteen of these Signature Events, with Celebrity Chefs hosting at all of them. Other Celebrity Chefs appearing at Signature Events are Chef Corbin, Chef Chuck Hughes, Chef Todd Perrin and Chef Antonio Park.
The Taste of Coastal Communities culinary series presented by Atlantic Lottery is in its third year, and features four of Canada’s leading working chefs. An Exclusive Evening at Red Shores, featuring Vancouver’s Chef Ned Bell and Red Shore’s own Chef Andrew Smith, presents a four-course meal and wine pairing over the historic Charlottetown Driving Park on September 11th. Also in the series are Taste of Georgetown, September 5th hosted by Toronto based Chef Justin Cournoyer; Taste of Tyne Valley, September 12th with Niagara’s Chef Ryan Crawford; and Taste of North Rustico, September 27th hosted by London, Ontario’s, Chef Jason Wolfe.
“The Signature and Taste of Coastal events are truly world-class culinary events,” says Ms Campbell. “A collection of some of the best chefs in the country are here for them, and they are even more excited than the patrons about having the opportunity to work their personal magic with PEI’s incredible foods. It’s the best from the best!”
In addition to the Signature and Taste of Coastal events, Fall Flavours also features a collection of Culinary Events hosted by PEI’s leading chefs, Culinary Adventures where customers have a more hands-on experience with PEI foods, and a Restaurant Dining Program where participating restaurants serve from special fall-inspired menus.
